Description

So here is one of my contest entries for :icontheprincessproject: contest!
I really like the underwater and mer-people theme, so I decided to try it out! I'm also entering the bigger contest, but couldn't resist drawing this one. I live on a very small island, 27x smaller than the state of Rhode Island, tropical weather all day everyday as well as beaches and a lot of education about it's creatures. And our location is also known for being next to the all famous Marianas Trench, the deepest trench in the world.

So, I based this deep sea mer-princess really just off my environment and knowledge of such. But I did do more research. Like her hair is actually made up of this deep sea carnivorous sponge called the " ping pong tree " sponge. Reaching about 20 inches long, the gelatin like substance functions like an amoeba and begins to eats up prey that gets stuck in the little blue 'ping pong' balls. Her drawn ' dress ' is also based off a creature called a benthocodon, a type of glowing jellyfish with over 1000 tentacles (smaller than the usual size), and it really just floats around and functions like plankton. Then, she's one of those creatures that has those things on the side of her tail that kinda looks like what a bug would have, but it's just to help her swim, and the long thin tail coming out at the end of her 4 fin tail helps her maneuver quickly and steathily at such depths.
Light emits from her own body, and due to practically transparent skin, you can see her insides (or the little of it)

I'm not sure if the picture on the right is my final color scheme for her, but I hope you get the gist of it. I have more of an idea for color scheme, but wasn't able to portray it fully here. I kept to a bit of  a grayscale minimal color, just enough to show a bit more of what I'm imagining. However I still love her design.

Oh yes! For those little rock things behind her, I also planned to carve in some skeletons of sea creatures there, I know that may not sound pretty, but it's the circle of life. And I don't think its too much different than life above the darkness of the sea. Plus, isn't it interesting to see the skeletons/bonework of these creatures ? o: (if they have bones)

WELL!
I guess I babbled on with that.
